No. The ADA recognises prosthodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, endodontics and oral surgery among others — cosmetic dentistry is not on that list, and any licensed dentist may advertise it. This is exactly why we screen for accreditation, verifiable case photography and process instead of relying on the label.
Three things. Their own before-and-after photography, in consistent lighting, ideally including cases at two years rather than only on delivery day. Documented training — AACD accreditation or a recognised institute. And process: photographs, scans, a digital design and a physical trial smile before any tooth is prepared. Evasion on any of the three tells you something.
Usually yes. Aligning teeth first almost always means fewer veneers, thinner preparations and less enamel removed permanently. Using veneers purely to camouflage misalignment costs tooth structure you can never get back. A cosmetic dentist who raises orthodontics first is giving you the better advice, not the more expensive one.
Whitening is $250 to $800. Bonding $300 to $700 per tooth. Porcelain veneers $1,200 to $2,800 per tooth, so a typical eight-to-ten-unit smile is $12,000 to $25,000. Add orthodontics or gum work and a full makeover can exceed $50,000. Any credible practice quotes phase by phase after the design, never before it.
Because bite and appearance are the same system. Neuromuscular dentistry treats jaw pain by correcting where the jaw actually functions, and that position determines tooth position, tooth length and the shape of the lower face. Cosmetic work built on an unresolved bite problem is cosmetic work that fails early.
